Sceneries In Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka offers extremely varied sceneries: temples in the shape of dagobas, underground buddhas in sacred caves, seaside with limpid waters, hillsides covered with tea plantations, Swiss-like towns, and … a beautiful gigantic rock in the middle of the countryside. A delight to visit …

Dagobas in Sri Lanka

Dagobas are those big round shapes. Their particularity is they are not empty, they are full.

There’s just a small vacuum in front serving as an altar for offerings.

You walk around dagobas with no shoes on and the sun is so hot it can burn your feet.

So, don’t forget to put thick socks on !

Sigiriya Rock

Among one of the most impressive places is Sigiriya.

In Sri Lankan, Sigiriya means “Rock of the Lion”.

And it well deserves its name … it is so majestic.

Climbing the 370 metres is done along staircases.

Prepare yourself before walking …

Wewurukannala Monastery – Praying Lord Buddha

About 40 km from Tangalle is the Wewurukannala Monastery.

What struck me first was the enormous statues of Lord Buddha.

Look at the man praying just to have an idea of proportions.

Nuwara Eliya Tea Plantations

Sri Lanka wouldn’t be Sri Lanka without its tea plantations and its magnificent sceneries.

Around Nuwara Eliya and Ella are the most gorgeous landscapes.

They are best seen from the train that rallies Nuwara Eliya to Ella.

It takes more than 4 hours, so you have plenty of time viewing !

Colombo Hindu Temple And Nearby Shops

Like in all Asian cities, the main Hindu Temple in Colombo is surrounded with temple shops.

Devotees buy flower garlands and other artifacts.

Some can cost fortunes, like lifesize saint statues.

They honour their divinities by placing their offerings in the temple.

Strong Ties Between A Baby Elephant And Its Mother

Elephants are fascinating animals. No wonder the Hindu mythology gives a prominent place to them with Ganesh.

They are Sri Lanka’s pride and … terror. Each year, elephants cause damage to cultures and can even kill people.

The fond ties between this “baby” elephant and its mother are striking.

The baby plays with its mother’s leg, and she doesn’t oppose.

Children can be fun sometimes !
